The Richest Families Of India

Do you ever think about who the richest community is in the United States? 

Indian-Americans.

Do you know who the richest community is in India then? 

Gujaratis and Marwadis.

And do you know that most of these Indian Americans are Gujaratis and Marwadis?

Probably you don’t.

So what is the secret behind the Gujaratis and Marwadis being the richest?

I wanted to know that. And I got the answer when I was in our run club. I finished my running, got to a table, grabbed a water bottle, and was cooling myself down.

And at that table, I didn't know there were almost 7-8 people, around my age, 17 to 23, mixed. 

They were all cousins and Gujaratis.

I thought, okay, they are here having their fun. But when I saw what they were talking about, they were all talking in the same language.

I said: "Are you all Gujarati?"

They said: "Yeah, we are all Gujaratis."

Me: Okay, cool.

I said: "I have one question for all of you guys. Why are Gujaratis vegetarian? Why do they have the business mindset? And why is it all interconnected to each other? Why?"

And that one girl out of all of them said just one word: "Humanity."

I was astonished. And I didn't know what to ask as a follow-up. I overthought a little. 

I said, "Great answer." And I didn't say anything after that.

Next time, if I get any such answer, I will try to do the follow-up question. 

And it makes sense. Because Gujarat and Marwad are mostly on the western side of India, which is nearer to the Arabian Sea. 

For centuries, people from abroad came with boats and ships, with items to sell here and distribute across India.

So that's where this community got built. 

Also, the richest man in India himself is Gujarati. And he has a great family who is managing all his stuff and his entire empire.

And in foreign culture, it's different. 

Because people are becoming more individual. 

Me, myself too. Because everyone doesn't have joint families anymore. They're not living together. 

Everyone wants to live alone, separately. So it's kinda having the pros and cons of having a joint family in modern days.

But it's only about how you want to see it.
