I was reading Ogilvy on Advertising last night.
The time was exactly 12:36 a.m. on the clock when I turned the page to the next one, and suddenly I came across a woman without a top, and on the next page, she wore nothing at all.
Literally. Nothing.
I like wtf? How can they even mention this in a book?
Then, after reading the concept, I realised. It's the greatest thing that has ever happened.
Cause every outdoor advertising agency in the world promises results to the big brands and companies, but they don't deliver quality work before the deadlines.
So to handle those objections, in the year of 1981 in Paris, an advertising agency called Avenir did something crazy that no one ever expected in marketing history.
They came up with a series of posters that appeared all around Paris:
Poster 1 with headline:
"On September 2, I'll take off the top"
Visual: A confident woman in a bikini, hands on hips, smiling.
On September 2:
Headline: "On September 4, I'll take off the bottom"
Visual: The same women take off the top literally.
At this point, the whole of Paris was hooked, and it also reached out to a lot of businesses and brands.
And finally, on September 4:
Visual: The woman shown from the back, nude.
Headline: "Avenir. The poster company that keeps its promises."
This series of posters disrupted the whole of Paris and caught the attention of big brands.
Avenir promised and delivered on time. And that's what other brands want to expect from advertising agencies.
And it's the same for you as a digital marketer or copywriter.
Promise to your clients, deliver with quality and before the deadlines, and then you will be trustworthy and can work long-term with them.
