Hey {{first_name|Bro}},

On Diwali evening, I was doing outreach to some clients in Colorado,

Then suddenly, my sister came into my room and said, “Come, there’s a fire ritual you have to do for Diwali!”

I told her, “Give me 10 minutes, I’m doing outreach.”
She said, “Okay.”

Then my lovely (and crazy) Asian mom shouted from the other room,

“Where the hell are you?! Your cousins are here, come and do the ritual ASAP!”

I said, “Just 5 more minutes!”

Then my cousins came in like, “Bro, you have to come!”

My mom is getting angrier like fire.

Finally, I hit the send button, and my emails landed in my clients’ inboxes right at 8:00 a.m. in Colorado.

Then get out of the room like a DC movie’s Flash and join the ritual I didn’t even want to do.

But the funny thing is, I actually enjoyed that ritual called “Bada Badua Ho” for a moment.

It was about remembering our ancestors by burning wood like this:

And honestly, it felt kind of good. But right after that, I went back to my room, shut the door, and got back to work (away from all that noise).

The Lesson is: Sometimes, you’ve got to say no, even if it’s to your family, your friends, or anyone who tries to pull you away from your work, {{first_name|Bro}}.

(Unless you’re in an Asian family, then saying “no” might start World War III 😅)
